Anniversaries and beginnings

Mom and Friend, Atlantic City, New Jersey

Today marks the 101st anniversary of my mother, Emma Schaefer's birth. I lit a candle and fondly remembered her life.

Welcome to Sun Harbor

Today also marks the one year anniversary of closing on my Pompano Beach home. One year ago today I officially became a resident of the Sunshine State.

And today also marks my first appearance in Pompano Beach's own, The Pelican weekly newspaper with a feature on artist Tim Yankosky. Click here to read:

Former hubby and great friend, Bob Ingram, is visiting again, and we had a peek at The Treasures of the Vatican exhibit at the Ft. Lauderdale Art Museum, and we'll join my super next-door neighbors, Allen and Sharon for a dinner at the historic Key Lime House.

All in all it has been a pretty good day!

Remembering Shelley Picker

It was my privilege to be Shelley Picker's friend and partner. We met, joined forces, and magic happened. Together we evolved not only one of Philadelphia's truly independent Public Relations firms, but we merged styles and values to create an authentic 'tour de force' back in the early 1980's. But that is not what I want to say here. I remember a woman who loved life and family. Her love for husband Ben is one of the great love stories of modern times. Their love and tenderness for each other was palpable. Anyone in their proximity could feel it and all who came near were enveloped in its glow. Shelley also was a nurturing and caring mother, and I imagine grandmother, though I was away from her during that part of her life. And a most incredible artist. That is what she already was when Phil Goldsmith introduced us in the early 80s, and after her incredible public relations career, that is what she returned to in sublime joy even as she courageously battled cancer. Shelley was a role model for me, her love for Ben was a poem I tried to emulate and finally found in my love for my beloved Martijn. My heart goes out to all who have lost this wondrous wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend and colleague.
